Selective Equality (Poem)

Selective Equality by MyMothersMilky / Roxana Hooti (2023)

A twisted mind will forget its government’s crimes

When it’s coated with Blue and Yellow and glitters of Rainbow

Identity always under question and under power

Step on it more and more til there’s no more

Selfcentered and egotistical activism feeds the capitalism

So selective I’m not sure if it’s ignorance or racism

You speak of fighting for human rights

You speak of freedom of identity

You speak of equality

But I can’t hear you from the middle east

This isn’t a common sense activism

It’s the age of selective equality

I hope we all wake up from this fuckery

A poem to reflect my thoughts on current “equality” activism and people who selectively become activists. This also feeds down into the identity of many groups who are even more suppressed due to prioritisation of commercialised causes.
